The Timeline of Redemption: Jesus’ Death, Rest, and Resurrection—Straight from the Word
Alright, Muscle Dogg here, and today we’re breakin’ down the powerful truth about what really happened between the cross and the empty tomb. A lot of people know Jesus died and rose again, but they miss the deeper details of when and why—and how it all lines up with Scripture and God’s appointed times.
Jesus didn’t just show up, die, and rise randomly. He fulfilled prophecy to the very day—even in His rest. Let’s walk through the Bible timeline: His death, His rest in the grave on the Sabbath, and His resurrection on the first day.
The Bible says Jesus was crucified and died before the Sabbath began. That day is called Preparation Day, the sixth day of the week—what we call Friday.
Luke 23:54 says:
“It was the day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was about to begin.”
Mark 15:42 confirms:
“It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath).”
That means:
• Jesus died before sundown on Friday.
• His body was placed in the tomb before the Sabbath started.
• Even in death, He followed the rhythm God established at creation.
He finished the work of redemption the same way God finished creation—before the seventh day.
Just like God rested on the seventh day after creating the world, Jesus rested in the tomb after completing the work of salvation.
Luke 23:56 says:
“They rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.”
That means:
• Jesus’ followers didn’t anoint His body right away—they honored the Sabbath.
• Even in His death, Jesus kept the commandment.
• His rest in the grave is a fulfillment and reflection of God’s Sabbath rest.
This wasn’t by chance—it was divine timing.
On the first day of the week, Jesus got up. That’s Sunday, y’all—Resurrection morning.
Luke 24:1-3 says:
“On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared… but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.”
Matthew 28:1-6 confirms:
“After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week… the angel said, ‘He is not here; He has risen!’”
That means:
• Jesus rose on Sunday—after resting the full Sabbath.
• He conquered death and came out the tomb right on time.
• His resurrection marked the beginning of new life—for Him and for us.
The same One who said, “It is finished,” on Friday, rose in victory Sunday morning.
Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection weren’t random events—they were right on God’s schedule. He died on Preparation Day (Friday), rested on the Sabbath (Saturday), and rose on the first day (Sunday), fulfilling both creation and redemption.
So, let me ask you: Are you paying attention to the timeline God laid out? Are you walking in the rest, victory, and power that Jesus secured for you?
Take time this week to walk through the Gospels—Luke 23–24, Matthew 27–28, and John 19–20. See the beauty of how God’s timing is always perfect.
Jesus finished the work on the cross, rested on the Sabbath, and rose to give us new life.
Trust His Word. Follow His example. And never forget— the grave couldn’t hold Him, and because of that, you’ve got victory too!
