Is the Sabbath Still a Command… or Just a Principle?

Straight from the Scriptures, No Spin, No Compromise.

Intro

Alright, Muscle Dogg here, and today we’re hittin’ a question that gets tossed around a lot:

“Is the Sabbath still a command we should follow—or is it just a principle now?”

Some say, “Oh, we just rest whenever—it’s more about the idea of rest than a specific day.” But the Bible dosen’t say that. See, when God speaks, He don’t play in suggestions—He gives commands with clarity.

So let’s break it down:

Is the Sabbath still binding?

Was it only for Israel?

Did Jesus change it to a floating “rest concept”?

What does God actually say?

1: The Sabbath Was Commanded, Not Suggested

Let’s go to the Ten—the Ten Commandments, written in stone by God Himself. Not Moses. Not tradition. GOD.

Exodus 20:8-10 says:

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy… the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work…”

That means:

The Sabbath is part of the Ten Commandments—not ten principles.

God said “remember,” not “rethink.”

There is no scripture that says this command was revoked or turned into a loose principle.

You wouldn’t call “Thou shall not kill” just a principle, right? Same with the Sabbath.

2: Jesus Respected the Command, Not Just the Concept

Jesus didn’t come to erase the Sabbath—He came to live it right.

Luke 4:16 says:

“As His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.”

Matthew 5:17-18 says:

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill… till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law.”

That means:

Jesus didn’t cancel the Sabbath—He clarified it.

He showed us how to keep it without the legalism—but never broke it.

The command still stood—even after the resurrection.

Jesus rested in the tomb on the Sabbath. That’s not just symbolism—that’s divine alignment.

3: The Sabbath Is for All People, for All Time

Some say, “That was just for the Jews.” But go back—God gave the Sabbath in Eden—before sin, before nations, before Israel.

Isaiah 56:6-7 says:

“Also the sons of the foreigner… everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath… I will bring to My holy mountain… for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”

That means:

The Sabbath wasn’t Jewish—it was human.

God called everyone to honor it.

Even in the new earth, all flesh will keep it (Isaiah 66:23).

The Sabbath was given to man, not a nationality. It still applies—because truth don’t expire.

Conclusion

The Sabbath isn’t just a nice idea or a floating “day of rest.” It’s a command—established in creation, written in stone, lived by Jesus, and upheld forever.

So let me ask you: Are you treating the Sabbath like a command from God, or a suggestion from culture? Are you keeping the day He blessed—or following a version man made up?

Call to Action (CTA)

Go read Exodus 20. Study Luke 4, Isaiah 56, and Isaiah 66.

Ask God to show you what’s in His Word—not just what’s popular. The Sabbath still stands, and He’s calling His people to return to it.

What to Hold Onto

God didn’t turn His command into a concept. He didn’t un-bless what He already blessed.

The Sabbath is still holy. Still relevant. Still His.

Keep it. Honor it. And walk in the rest that only comes from doing things God’s way.
