Faith in God’s Truth:

The Breath of Life, Not a Separate Spirit Body

Intro

Alright, Muscle Dogg here, and today we’re talkin’ about what it really means to be a “living soul” according to the Bible. A lot of folks believe that when we die, some spirit version of us floats off to heaven or hell—but that’s not scriptural.

The Bible teaches that God gave us the breath of life, and that breath—not a separate spirit being—makes us a living soul. We don’t have a soul that exists apart from our body—we ARE a soul, created by God’s power.

Let’s break down what the Bible really says about life and death, and why trusting God’s Word matters more than human traditions.

1: We Are Living Souls—Not Spirits Trapped in a Body

The Bible is crystal clear on how humans were created. Let’s go straight to Genesis—

Genesis 2:7 says:

“Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living soul.”

That means:

    •           God didn’t give Adam a soul—He made Adam a soul.

    •           The soul isn’t a separate, floating entity—it’s a living being made of dust and breath.

    •           Without God’s breath, the body has no life—it returns to dust.

We are whole beings, not spirits trapped in a shell.

2: The Soul is NOT Immortal

One of Satan’s biggest lies is that we have an immortal soul that can never die. But what does the Bible say?

Ezekiel 18:4 says:

“The soul who sins shall die.”

That means:

    •           If the soul could live forever, how could it die?

    •           Immortality is NOT something we naturally have—it’s a gift from God.

    •           Only God is immortal (1 Timothy 6:15-16), and we only receive eternal life through Jesus.

If people already had immortality, there would be no need for resurrection.

3: Death is a Sleep, Waiting for the Resurrection

When we die, the breath of life returns to God, and the body returns to dust. That’s why the Bible describes death as a sleep—not an afterlife.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 says:

“Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.”

That means:

    •           The “spirit” that returns to God is the breath of life—not a conscious soul.

    •           The dead are asleep, unaware, waiting for the resurrection.

    •           Our hope is in Jesus calling us back to life, not in an immediate trip to heaven or hell.

Jesus Himself said in John 11:11-14 that death is like sleep—because He knew the truth.

Conclusion

The Bible is clear—we are living souls, not spirits living inside a body. When we die, we sleep in the grave, waiting for Jesus to resurrect us. The idea of an immortal soul separate from the body? That’s Satan’s lie, not God’s truth.

So, let me ask you: Are you trusting in God’s Word, or in human traditions? Are you putting your faith in Jesus, the only One who can give eternal life?

Call to Action (CTA)

Stay in the Word. Don’t let man-made teachings take away the hope of the resurrection. Jesus is coming back—and that’s when we will truly live again.

What to Hold Onto

God’s breath gives life, and only He can restore it. The dead are not alive elsewhere—they are resting, waiting for the trumpet call of Jesus.

Stand firm in His truth, trust His promises, and look forward to the resurrection—because that’s the real hope we have in Christ!
